Fishing Update Friday July 30, 2010
Lake Ontario; Salmon are hitting in 200 to 300 feet of water, down 80 to 90. Still scattered, but they are there. Spoons and flies work, and the copper is still the best way to present your lure.
Kings have been in the 20 pound class, and a reported 35 pounder was caught off of Sodus Bay in 300 feet of water.
There have been some smallmouths caught out in the lake. Not a large number, however at least they are hitting. Look for the drop-offs
Bays; Sodus has seen some nice largemouth caught. Work the weedlines near the islands and off the points near the south end of the bay.
Panfish are everywhere, and will hit anything. Take the kids and show them some action.
Erie Canal; Largemouths are near Widewaters and cat fish are in the deeper pools near Palmyra. Cats will hit cut bait drifted on the bottom
The New York State Department of Environmental Conservation is recruiting volunteer bass anglers to participate in a Lake Ontario Black Bass Angler Diary Program. This program was initiated to provide NYSDEC with valuable information on fishing quality experienced by anglers targeting smallmouth and largemouth bass in
